About Slurve

Slurve, which takes its name from the sliding curveball, is the arts and culture review that masquerades as a baseball publication.

Best described as cross between The Onion and The New Yorker, Slurve publishes humorous sports, politics, and pop culture pieces alongside intelligent conversation, creative work, and sage advice. We promote the arts, education, and social responsibility, but we live for the crack of the bat, the turning of a double play, the sacrifice fly, the walk-off homerun, and the smell of freshly cut grass and worn leather.

Founded in 2007, Slurve made a strong First Pitch, receiving contributions from Pulitzer Prize winner Franz Wright, award-winning poets David Kirby and Sharon Olds, and internationally known artist Joseph Nechvatal.  During its first 3 seasons, Slurve has expanded its roster to include a number of regular contributors that cover sports, politics, reviews, and important social issues, and has interviewed people such as renowned climatologist Brian Fagan, Islamic scholar Reza Aslan, and Oscar winning filmmakers Phillipe Petit and James Marsh.

In preparation for its fourth season, Slurve is rebuilding its website, has signed David Kirby as its advice columnist, and is looking to fill numerous editorial positions.

Slurve is also in the process of finalizing its non-profit status, which will allow it to raise funds for numerous programs that support the arts, education, and social responsibility.  More information on The Slurve Foundation can be found here.
